Certified Mold Testing Since 2007
Many of our Clients have a blood test for mold exposure. Some have found specific kinds of mold in their blood, while others have not. "According to doctors at Mayo Clinic, mold allergy symptoms are triggered by an overly sensitive immune system response. When you inhale tiny, airborne mold spores, your body recognizes them as foreign invaders and develops allergy-causing antibodies to fight them. After the exposure has passed, you still produce antibodies that “remember” this invader so that any later contact with the mold causes your immune system to react. This reaction triggers the release of substances such as histamine, which cause itchy, watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing and other mold allergy symptoms." - Science & Wellness Organisation
Molds can cause structural damage because they consume and destroy the material they settle upon. Mold can be hard to find because spores hide behind wall paper, drywall, insulation, in HVAC ventilation, attics and under carpet and subfloors. Mold undermines property value and can cause real estate sales to fail during the inspection period. We can test the air quality, indoor humidity, and any visible mold with moisture meters and surface tape lifts to determine if there are unsafe levels of mold in your building. When moisture problems occur and mold growth results, building occupants may begin to report odors and a variety of health problems. Occupants of damp or moldy buildings are at increased risk of experiencing health problems such as respiratory symptoms, respiratory infections, allergic rhinitis and asthma. On the other hand, WHO has demonstrated that remedial action works. For example, research shows that people living in well-insulated and adequately ventilated accommodations are less likely to have respiratory conditions than those living in damp homes.
Recently, some buildings, like college dormitories, sat unused during the pandemic, were not heated and experienced water damage that was not properly remediated. CDC reports that in 2021, there was at least 7,000 people who died in the U.S. from fungal infections and pneumonia; and more than 75,000 people are hospitalized in the United States every year from fungal infections.
