La Pine is a small frontier town nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains at approximately 4,270 ft elevation. The city is surrounded by open meadows, lakes and rivers. First settled by French fur traders in the 1800s, La Pine was incorporated in 2006. It is an affordable town to live, characterized by 2,600 people with a deep sense of community, and has about 20,000 residents in the greater La Pine area. With mountain peaks, majestic pines, clear rivers, and plenty of sunshine La Pine offers endless opportunities for outdoor enjoyment such as fishing, camping, hiking, biking, and water recreation. The area itself is a fun destination, but the city also serves as a waypoint with grocery and restaurants for visitors exploring the nearby Cascades, alpine lakes, Newberry Volcano, Mt. Bachelor and Willamette Pass Resort.
